Age-Specific Groups – We have monthly or bi-monthly activities for 7-11 Girls, 7-11 Boys, 12 & Up Girls, and 12 & Up Boys. Please check the Calendar of Events or the yahoo group for specifics.
Back to School Family Picnic - Come to Mitch Park with your family and a picnic supper to meet and fellowship with fellow homeschoolers. This is a fun, casual evening in September. For more information, contact Andrea Pflughoft at Pflughoft@sbcglobal.net .
Back to School Vendor Fair - This annual event showcases organizations from the community that provide enrichment and elective opportunities for homeschool students. Visit with 40+ vendors representing sports, band, art, scouts, science, clubs, museums, co-ops, etc. Gather fliers from area organizations on teacher discounts, competitions, etc. Mentoring room. Box Tops - Our group collects Box Tops For Education. The money we collect goes toward decreasing the cost of the annual yearbook. Each Box Top is worth 10¢, so start saving them. For more information or to turn in your Box Tops, contact Paige Redwine at paigeredwine@yahoo.com .
Braum’s Book Buddy - Your 1st-5th grade child can earn up to 6 free Braum’s treats by reading books. Sign up on the yahoo database.
Fellowship ‘n Fun Nights - Periodic opportunity for the homeschool mom to get out and fellowship with other homeschool moms. This year we will have a Movie Night, Christmas Potluck, and more. For more information, contact Karen Helton at kheltonmk@aol.com.
Field Day - This is a fun day at the park in May to celebrate and wind down the school year. We have fun group games and the grand finale is an old-fashioned water balloon fight. Bring a picnic lunch to stay and visit. Check the EHE calendar in the spring for more information.
Field Trips - EHE schedules monthly field trips. This year, we are going to the TG Farms, Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse, and Oklahoma Aquarium, just to name a few. Check the EHE Calendar for sign up deadlines. For more information, contact Katrina Myatt at katrina.myatt@gmail.com .
Geography Bee - Our group hosts a local competition of the National Geographic Society Geography Bee in January. Students 4th - 8th grade are eligible. A practice bee is also scheduled to familiarize the students with the format. For more information contact Tamara Gelnar at tamaragelnar@sbcglobal.net .
Geography Fair - One of our most popular events every year (November). Participating families pick a country to represent. Each offers a sample-sized serving of a native food. Displays can be elaborate or simple. Each child receives a passport so they can receive a sticker or stamp to the countries they “travel” to that night. Group Meetings - Each semester we will have a group meeting to provide continuing education for the homeschool parents. For more information, contact Andrea Pflughoft at Pflughoft@sbcglobal.net .
Holiday Parties - We like to host a Christmas and Valentine’s Day Party just so the children can get together and have some seasonal fun. Check the EHE Calendar for more information.
Math-A-Thon - The Math-A-Thon is a fun and educational fundraising program (in October) for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for children K-8th grade. Participating students obtain sponsorships from family and friends to work math problems.
Member Card - Each paying EHE member receives a Member Card. This card can be used at many area businesses to receive a discount on products or services. Refer to our website or directory for more details.
Member Directory - In the Fall, we publish a printed member directory to help you network and interact with the other families. We include contact information plus curriculum, church home, children’s ages, etc so you can find like families. Deadline to be included in the directory is September 30th. Newcomer Tea - We like to pamper our new homeschool moms with a Tea at the beginning of the school year. Seasoned homeschoolers are on hand to mentor and encourage the new homeschoolers. For more information, contact Deborah O’Haro at jpoharo@sbcglobal.net .
Park Day - We have a standing Park Day set for the 1st & 3rd Friday of every month at 12pm at Hafer Park by the duck pond. The moms enjoy visiting and networking while the children play. Number in attendance is never set; it depends upon individual schedules and the weather. Come if you can!
School Pictures – We have arranged with a local photographer to take school portraits of our children. These will be taken in Mardel’s conference room on Oct 8th & 9th. Please contact Suzy McCracken at McCrackenmeup@cox.net for an appointment time.
Spelling Bee - We host a Pee Wee (K-4th grade) and a Scripps National Spelling Bee (5th – 8th grade) in January. A practice bee is also scheduled to familiarize the students with the format. In the past, our local winner has advanced through regional and state competitions to the national level in Washington, D.C. For more information, contact Kim Morey at skmorey@cox.net .
T-Shirts - In the Fall, we will take orders for group t-shirts. A design will be on the front about homeschooling and our group name will be on the back. Cost is $7 each, $9 each for XXL & XXXL. Yearbook - We will be upgrading our yearbook to an all-color and even larger book than last year. They are $35 each or you can participate in the cookie dough fundraiser to decrease your cost. For more information, contact Suzy McCracken at McCrackenmeup@cox.net .
